They spawned again either frst thing this morning or last night. As soon as I got in from work tonight I captured the male and got him to spit the eggs. Easier that it sounds! He took a leap for freedom but luckily landed in one of the larval tubs on floor, so a grabbed him put him in the net and he spat the eggs.

Dang! Got back from work today and he's swallowed the eggs again! Think next time I might have to catch him to cough them up.
Any thoughts?

Well the male is finally carrying eggs again. Lets see if he can hold them this time without eating them. Looks like they are only going to spawn once every 6 weeks.

Found Male with a massive nest off eggs in his mouth today. Fingers crossed I get these a bit further than last time.

Don't think so but couldn't say for sure. Trying out small acrylic 5 litre tanks for the first time, so maybe them. Will see how the few cyphos I have get on with them before calling judgement The gold stripe larvae hatched well but 2/3rds were dead before sun up. So not sure as it was first spawning for them.
May just go back to BRT's but space is becoming a problem.

There was only 1 larvae alive tonight. Not sure why they all died so quickly, but I may need to cultivate alot more pod naups for these little guys.

Larvae hatched last night. I placed the male in a 5litre plastic tank and floated it in the main tank. The larvae hatched approx 1 hour after lights out. I removed the male and left the plastic tank in the main tank overnight. In the morning approx 2/3rds of the larvae were dead concentrated in one small area approx 1" square on the bottom of the tank. With hindsight I should have removed the tank and covered the sides to prevent light coming in from the sides. I had small led moonlights on in the fish house and I think they were probably glass kissing all night which caused the fatalities.

Heres some pics of the fry left alive. I guesstimate around 50-100. The coin you can see is a £1 coin. Not much use to you guys that side of the pond but I didn't have any dollars or cents in my pockets!...Hahaha.

My male Leptacanthus sucks! He's totally useless at brooding. Looks like the Cyan is doin a bit better lol.

Yeah, it can be done, but much more difficult. Got to 45 days with Apogon leptacanthus...

According to Witt's book: "All known species of cardinalfish are mouthbrooders that orally incubate their eggs until hatching 7 to 8 days after fertilization. With the exception of the Banggai cardinal fish that lacks a pelagic larval phase..."
