She's big. She would be about 2 1/2 years old now.

I've tried her with three males now. She didn't spawn with either of the first two, and only once with this one in June. I think I just need a new female. Since Bangaii are only reproductive for a short span, it's probably worth my while to just start off with a new pair. I'm good at sexing them, so I can get a pair together no problem.

No further action with this pair. The male is beating the female up a bit. Time to purge this pair from the breeding room.

Success! In just under 3 weeks, we have a spawning with this newly formed pair! I was viewing Bangaii porn. There are a few eggs on the bottom of the tank and the female's vent, and they are circling lots. Either they don't know what they're doing or she hasn't released the main bundle of eggs. Why they are breeding just after lights out is beyond me...silly fish.

After 10 months of no spawning, I removed male #2 and replaced with male #3 which is from the same wild collection as male #2. I also moved both of them into a 20-gallon tank on the same broodstock system. This new pairing is now called V3.0.

After repeated, extremely poor incubation the original male was removed and replaced with a new young male 07/18/12. Original male always seemed bored by the female, and it was always the female doing the majority of courtship. The new male is very feisty, and very intent with the female.

Spawned May 18th afternoon. I stripped about 38 eggs to artificially incubate them as documented in the thread "Adventures with Artificial Incubation for Banggai Cardinals". I decided to make a new thread on that topic, and will continue to update this thread as actual progress is made.

I have this info in the data sheet. This is second-hand information though. They have bred now 6 times that I know of. The first 3 were with a different person, and I have no idea if he held the eggs on those spawns.

So it looks like this male isn't up to the duty of incubating the eggs. They spawned a third time while I was in Kauai and he was eating again on the 3rd day. I will be stripping the eggs from him as soon as I see them on the next spawn and attempting artificial incubation. I've had limited success with AI in the past, so any tips or links to successful designs would be appreciated.

He has already swallowed most of the eggs. I will bet he will be eating again by tomorrow night. He will get to try a third batch, and if he doesn't make any progress I will pull the 4th batch on the first day (oh fun).

Had another spawn today (18 days after the last one), his much is much fuller than last time. Hopefully he can resist the taste a little longer this time!
