I looked up the engineering fact sheet, with the psi rating for both pipes the thin wall, "pvc 1140" is rated up to 360 psi at a temperature of 80 deg f/h.
While the thick wall is 480 psi capable at same temp range.
For a 10 gallon system, est. flow rate needed is 10 times an hour ie 100 gph pump.
The thin wall pvc should easily hold up vs pump with that flow rate even if you capped the end of the pipe so it was just a pressure tube.

I've used both with no problems. You'd have to have a pretty high pressure for it to matter.

Hi, I am trying to plumb a return for 4 ten gallon tanks using 3/4" PVC (yes I know I could have gone much smaller.. too late now). I miscalculated when I was cutting lengths so I went back to Lowes and picked up a 10' section of 3/4" PVC. What I didn't notice, was that I bought the thin wall stuff. It fits into all my fittings fine, but I just want to confirm it shouldn't fail or anything. I just hate to have to go back to lowes again and buy the thicker wall stuff. The return has a pipe that returns back to the sump, so it's really not under pressure, even if I shut off all 4 tanks. I searched the forum, and I didn't find anything on it.

PVC 1120 is your standard stuff you find in Lowes, it has a relatively thick wall. I've also seen the pipe labled cp-112-P
PVC 1140 is thin wall PVC. Outer diameter is the same as PVC 1120. I've also seen it labeled CP-114-P.
