The 120 is the ultimate destination, NOT the entry point. There's interemediate steps, starting with quarantine. I don't think I'm breaking confidences by saying they're going into QT to start It's a process.

I think Todd will employ one of the many viable options for getting reef-based clownfish spawns into culture, be it a tile, egg harvesting, larval snagging. If you're one of only a tiny handful of people in the world who have Lightning X Lightning paired and spawning, I think you're going to make sure it's handled appropriately

Indeed, it is very little info, but I'm sure the parties involved want it that way, and I have to respect that. All I can say is I think the above should allay some of your concerns, and I for one can't really be critical of a plan that includes housing the pair in a reef tank...after all, that's where I housed mine for years! Only more recently have they come to live in a barren breeding type setup with a tile tepee And part of the reason the pair is now downstairs is because my plan is to put my F1 Lightning X F1 Lightning upstairs on display!

Matt, I'm having trouble reconciling the following two statements you make:

Since the buyer is putting these two fish together into a single 120 gallon display, I don't understand how he or she "gets it" at all. Plus, if the fish do "decide to mate", how is he going to transfer the eggs to Joe and Todd -- by moving the rock (perhaps with attached anemone)? This sounds a lot like the buyer is aware of your hopes that they would become part of a breeding program, and is simply giving lip service to that dream.

I'll certainly bring up shipping to Canada, but I think it's an issue of export license and such as much as it is importing them on your end. I know officially, the first auctions only offered shipping to US destinations.

Hey Matt, Blue Zoo didn't reply to my email asking about shipping to Canada. Would you be able to help with this at all?

I notice the first two Lightning colored fish went to the same buyer. A breeder I'm hoping? I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of the "big name" breeders. Not a big bill for one of them.

I'm hoping the later auctions will go for significantly less money. I'm going to talk to Blue Zoo to see if they will allow shipment to Canada in the small hope that I may win one of these fish. It looks like there are 12 more chances after the first two LM.

I agree 100%. Maybe in a few years I can justify owning $4000 broodstock, but right now I'm not sure I could sell enough offspring in my market. I seriously looked at buying that breeding pair of McCullochs that came up last year, and I think the investment of the Maroons is the better investment. It's just unfortunate that my pockets aren't so deep right now. I'm a beast of feast and famine.

I'll be happy to take one of the individuals split up to homes in MN. I thought they'd go for a few grand, didn't anticipate the price they are at now to come before the first 24 hours of being listed though.

It is likely that they will pick one another off as the numbers in your tanks decrease. I had some percula clownfish that I got from a local breeder that would kill each other if not kept in pairs and threes in square pond baskets stuck into the ten gallon tanks on my system. Once I let a group of three that had been peaceful in a basket have their own 10 gallon, and the next morning, one was dead of aggression by the others.

Crowd them up. It forces them to get along. Of course your results may vary. I've never kept maroons.
