No, I attached the pipe to the stand pipe with an airstone at the bottom.

It looks like about 50 have hatched. I checked the pipe and there are still a lot of eggs left. They don't look like they've fungused so I'll give them another day.

I did that too.  Shaking works better and IS more fun.  Get the flashlight on them as well.

Thanks Kathy! I did the shaky thing and most of them hatched. There are still some that aren't hatched but my hand was getting tired so I'll try again in a while. I'm estimating I probably have 150 now.

The RotiGreen cleared up while I was away today so I got a better idea of how many fry I have...

If they all survive me being away this weekend I'm going to have quite a few.

At first I didn't want to because I didn't think I had that many, now that I have a lot more I might 'scope one if I get time.

You plan to start them on rots?
And Tal,you don´t need to kill any larvae to take pics.I can tell you how.

Yes, I have them eating rotifers. That's all I have right now and I'm leaving town for the weekend. I was able to get that larvae back into the tank with no problems, what is your tip?

Rots are fine for them.
You need a thick well slide glass. You scoop the larva in there and then carefully pipette the water out until it remains still on its side. You take the pics quickly and put the water back. Then you free the larva by carefully dipping the slide in the tank.

Yeah, I would do that but I don't have a well slide on hand and I need a new pipette.

Unfortunately, none of them survived my weekend away. I thought at least a few would have been still alive. The rotifer population is fine so they didn't run out of food. I Figure the lack of detritus siphoning caused the problem.

On a good note, there are eggs in the pipe. Although I don't know exactly when they were laid.

Oh, for snagging a larvae for pics, yeah. Just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Apparently my estimated spawn date was a bit off this time. When I checked the pipe today the eggs were gone but then I looked up near the surface and saw this...

Not as many as last time but I'm assuming that the rest were caught in the filter. They are now in a BRT for round 2.

Man these guys are machines! I tried to catch them spawning last night but both of my batteries were dead. Today I was greeted with this:

Yup...you have a limited window with their short lifespans,so make these routine spawnings count Tal!
