I noticed nobody here used agar as a binder? I've never used gelatin because of the smell!
I didn't weight my last batch's components but so far I'm very happy with this batch:
4" chunk of salmon filet, skin on
5 large table shrimp, whole, shell on
7 bay scallops
2 tbsp finely crushed spirulina flakes
1 whole sardine, about 6" long
4 fresh frozen fish roe sacs
1 tspn astaxanthin powder, forgot the brand at the moment but not naturose
2 tbsp Rapashy Spawn and Grow powder
1 packet of agar powder dissolved in ~half cup of boiling water
So far I like the consistency and the fish eat it well.
It's not as 'set' as previous batches I've made but I actually like it better this way. It holds together well enough that it doesn't disperse tiny particles into the water but its loose enough that I don't have to prepare it any further after freezing the mix. It's basically come out as a soft gel that the fish are able to tear into as it sinks.
