Re:Breeding Journal, Species: [Amp Percula / Amp Ocellaris]

Well, last few days, since day 12 or so, i´ve been changing 30% ( 2,5 Gallons  of the water, replacing with broodstock water ( nitrites are near 0 ). If you say that nitrites at 20-30 ppm shouldnt be a real problem i think i will wait the beneficial bacteria at sponges filters to make their jobs, and the water will get cicled soon, what do you think? Shall i start to use natural seawater now instead of broodstock? We have good quality here. When i move them to growout tank, wich i will be doing on 30 day, im thinking on going for that kind of natural water.

It probably wouldn't hurt to start using new water for them at this stage.

Ok, ill go and pick some fresh water at sea, make some tests just in case, and start imediatly to do water changes with it , instead of broodstock water.

I would hesitate to use natural sea water without filtering it. You never know what kinds of pests may be in the water.

Ok, I will pass it thorought a 200 microns mesh when collecting and after in a 55 micron when droping it to growout tank. Beside im thinking on doing some tests to the water, and maybe puting some UV Lamp to work in the tank. Finaly got my hands a few minutes ago in the TDO breeder Pack. This afternoon will feed them and see how it goes. IS IT normal in day 19th they still be in 2 big schools in rear bottom corners, and not to swim around the tank even when geting feed? When are they suposed to swim to other parts of the tank?

Gave them TDO B 1 and B2 and they love it. I think that TDO B1 is a litle small cause they eated the B2 without any prob. Here you can see them eating it at 19th day. Do you see a problem on puting some caulerpa prolifera in their tank? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rn4iBFGZklM

I put macro algae in my tanks. C prolifera may be a good one because you can still vacuum around it. The Caulerpa genera has some risks, so dont let it grow in too large of a mass? Be sure to dip it first.... http://suzysreef.com/?p=192

Well, tks for your kindly words. Im worried cause my nitrites are geting dangerously high. This morning they were at 50-60 ppm, red in test scale. Im now doing a major 50% water change. I do not undesrtand why they are so high. I clean 2x day the tank, siphon food , detritus etc, but they are geting up? Why is that? The fish never get to the middle of the tank and i read yest night in Hoff´s book that it can mean that the fish are in stress probably by bad water condition. Ill check nitrites after. Im running 2x sponge filter, and only feeding tdo now. I siphon the uneaten food right after they eat.. What can i do more to get them down? Besides that fish are eating well and seem ok but.. Im realy nervous, and i hope they dont get ill with all this. Advices?

I think i found the origin of the high nitrites, and it was all my fault. I think i shouldnt have put in my sponge filters when i was still feeeding artemia cause most probably some got sucked in the filter sponge , died and where polluting the water. I took out yest one of the filters and the other i washed him very well. Will mantain the water changes and test again to see if they are droping.

LOL Fishtal you were right, the JBL damn test was wrong.... Tested with two other brand and the result was nitrites = 0.. Nitrates - 0 So everything is going well, no deaths. I just do not understand why they are still in two big groups and do not swim to the middle of the tank, and pass all the time near the corner, not moving away from that place.

Good to hear you figured out what was up. Don't worry too much about how the fish are behaving. At this point you should be well past the danger point.

Not quite as funny or cute as you think. Isolate the bully or the runt. They will most likely kill the small one.

I see, I do not have where to isolate him, but he stays in the false anemon and nobody is beating him cause my 2 schools of juveniles stay near corners and dont travel to anemon. However i will be watching the situation. ty
