Sure rubies resemble more scooters than mandarins. But I was wondering about how hard was to raise them;since Matt W.found scooters more difficult than mandarins, but he hadnĀ“t tried them at that time.
Heard any news from him,BTW?

i've been taking a break from the dragonets in order to recover from a bad cold and focus on keeping everything I've already got alive.

Someone who shall remain nameless until they reveal themselves asked me the following questions via pm.  I am allergic to private messages, so I'm answering here:
"I'd love it if you'd answer the following questions.

How far did you get? "
In my hands, starvation day is day 7, depending on temperature, I have gotten one to day 16, but only one, it was not robust.
"I take it settlement is day 11? (since that is the next stop) "
I don't think so, because the ones that I got past that were not ready to settle.
"Do you think at day 8 they can handle Apocyclops which are larger? "
I don't know. You should try it.
"Once you hit day 11 did you try any non-live foods like Othime or golden pearls? "
I did not, but they all died, so don't look to me for a success story. Once they hit day 11, I was lucky to have any left and I was at a loss.

The last two attempts did not get past day 11 despite the larvae looking absolutely great at day 10, robust, bright yellow, swimming and hunting.  Next day all dead.

It could be that they need a different environment, and a pretzel jar is not going to cut it.  It could be that they need another kind of food.  I don't think they are developed enough for dead food. They are still mighty tiny. I should get my hands on some euterpina and pseudodiaptimus, because the nauplii might work as a second or third food.  I do think that rotifers ARE their second food in my hands, and perhaps that is just inadequate, although it makes them quite robust at day 10.

Nice Journal.  And thanks for the answers

I did go ahead and take the time to read the whole journal even though I desperately need to be working on my Barbouri tank.

Very inspiring.

No don't be sorry.  I love long winded.  I love details and emotions.  Just run short on time sometimes and right now my fish room has too many chores to do.

I love the photos.  My 8 days old looks a little like your 6 days old.  When you said your starvation trial was 7 days. How many trials did you run with absolutely no food in with them?  I've done a few and seems like two days for mine.  I wonder if I have a bacterial problem or quality of eggs issue.  Need to start my own journal do not want to hijack yours.

Starvation can't be 2 days since they don't have a mouth then, and still have yolk. My friend who gives me eggs did the trials.
