That is pretty cool. I keep telling myself that one of these days I'm going to setup a cuttlefish tank. I've always been fascinated by them.

Thanks guys! The forum here is looking good!

The cuttle program has been getting a lot of traction. Here is a piece from public television:

And here is a link to a write up I did with the most recent breeding info for the 2010 Drum and Croaker (you'll need to download the pdf):

Wow, that is awesome.  My kid would love to have those in the house.  My wife may even be willing to let me do that!!

Time for some research.

The short version of raising cuttles.

Buy eggs. Spend a lot of money on live mysis. Wean onto frozen and the larger foods. Enjoy.

Is the ink ever a problem?  I'd hate to be cleaning algae and have them blow up!

Very cool!

So this os one place where good protocols for culturing mysids would be a huge help I suppose. Joe I hear a cause calling for you!

Nice write up Rich, and nice publication.  Is this going to be a more common publication?

Thanks guys. I'll try put together a better write up for MBI in the next week or two (I think that is what Rook was asking ). I also have some new stuff regarding mating Metasepia (no closing of the lifecycle yet though)

Arc, the ink can be an issue, but almost never is for S. bandensis. They hardly ink making the water hard to see through and carbon and skimmers can take it out pretty quickly. Also, in the past we had to rely on wild caught adults and there were inking issue, but since these guys have been 'cracked' both in the sense of captive breeding and that wild eggs are available (and we understand how to raise the hatchlings), inking isn't that much of an issue.

In the meantime- This article is still pretty up to date on everything other than refining groups of S. bandensis:

A more scientifical article is available in the 2010 Drum and Croaker available here:

Very cool stuff Rich! Good job with them!

At one point I saw plans for a mysis culture system that looked pretty good to me. I'll see if I can track them down.
