I have had a lot of issues with this pair (or what used to be) in terms of illness (primarily fungus or parasite infection).  About 2 weeks ago, I moved them out of the breeding system and into a hospital tank.  I started treating them with Melafix and Copper.  The other day they were not looking very well.  I gave them a freshwater dip which took care of the fungus.   However, one of the fish got a bacterial infection and I lost him.  The female is doing ok,  I will continue to treat her.  I will do some reading and see if I can form a new pair with another Darwin Black.

After a little bit of reading and some thought, I am going to go ahead and try to re-establish another pair with the one remaining Darwin black.  I will have to get a fish that it larger or smaller than the one I have now.

With that being said,  I have to go get the surviving fish back healthy.  I did a 100% water change on the 10 gal hospital tank where they are currently living.  I also gave her a second freshwater dip to kill any remaining fungus/parasite that might be still attached and I added some Melafix to help heal up the wounds you will see in the pic below.  I am going to go out tonight and get some Maracyn to combat any bacterial infections.

Here is a current pic of the survivor.  (Notice the bloody wounds in the middle of the body)

If the survivor was the female of the pair you will need to get a smaller fish to pair it with. Females can't revert to being male.

Hopefully you can nurse her back to health.
