Looking for Banggai Broodstock, ideally from different parents.  Anyone know of good sources?  Probably just one pair right now.  I'll likely place them in the display tank until I get a full setup in the basement.

Maybe, if we have enough people interested, we can get a group order from two different quality breeders, pair them up and spreed them out.

Hmmm, perhaps a second breeders challenge idea.  How many banggai can we raise as a group in one year

Kathy was selling CB bangers along with her clowns at one point. I think she was re-selling for a local breeder in order to offer more to her mail-order sales.

I have a couple of little ones but it will be a while before they are up for breeding.

BTW, I have two males holding right now, but neither has ever held to term for me.

How old do they need to be before they are ready to start breeding?

My pair came from ORA, the raffle at MACNA 2008 and they were kinda small. I estimate under 1 year and they started spawning after a few months.

Tal, do you still keep your broodstock banggai in your sump?  Have any problems from doing so?  I could try that, although my sump is quite a bit smaller than yours.

Any idea at what age you can tell the sex of banggai?

Yes, mine are still in the sump. Only problem with that is I have to take all the LR out to net him and make him spit the babies.

I got lucky getting a pair. Sexing them is pretty tough, at least for me.

I am out of Banggais.  I could get them to breed, but the males only held for 4 days.  I had 2 or 3 pairs, and gave them all to another local breeder, but I haven't heard if they are spawning for him.  Andy, I sold the store near you some baby banggai that I got from yet another local breeder. I don't have any at all now.

Bummer Kathy. The Banggai you sold me are breeding, but they haven't been holding to term yet, either.

I have one that is holding right now.  He has never held to term but you guys can have them if I get them to saleable size.  Jeremy, check the stores around here.  I was able to find my pair at O&S.  The male was holding in the store.

I assume those will be wild caught, right?  What are the common diseases for wild Banggai?

You would have ask them.  They have had quite a bit of of CB stock lately.  I know that WC don't ship very well but in terms of disease I really don't know of anything.

The Tropicorium sells captive bred banggai cardinals, you can get the babies right now 2/30 or an adult pair 2/99.
