I used the smell test - if it stinks, do a 100% water change by sieving out all rotifers and putting them in old tank water than has also been seived through 53 micron mesh. Culture medium description:  RotiGrow Plus and Isochrysis  paste added each evening I add enough so that the water light green in color. Cell count: Estimated - Varies between 3 million and 5 million in my bucket of 3 gallons of water Reference links:   Additional Information Notes:  It isn't fancy!
