ok to move baby clowns into a smaller tank? - Tuesday, December 7, 2010 12:05 PM

My baby clowns are now 26 days old and I have 11 or 12 left. 8 already have all their stripes. the rest have just the head stripes and the belly stripe is just starting. they are now in a 30 gallon tank  with plenty of room to swim around. would it be ok to move these fish to an 8 gallon biocube, or is this too small. it would only be temporary for a few weeks till they get at least half an inch so they can go into a 60 gallon grow out tank. i just wanted to free up my larval tank. My clarkiis and my ocellaris eggs are due to hatch Sunday and Tuesday.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Shannon

Off the top of my head, probably fine....my first Onyx Percs I moved into a 6 gallon nano with no issues...but make sure they can't get sucked into the filtration and watch the water in case the tank isn't cycled....

The tank is three almost 4 years old, i took out the rock, kept the gravel and changed 60% of the water from the larval tank water. I covered the filter inlets with filter floss.

I moved the babies to the biocube with no issues. Cheers They seem excited to see gravel and to get more attention now that they are at eye level and in the storefront instead of the filter room.

They look cute!  Make sure they continue to get enough to eat and they'll get out of the risky size pretty quickly!

Are these the cute little buggers that I saw zipping in and out of a nem today?  Says 73 dph and not for sale on the tank?  Pictures don't do them justice.

As of Sunday the babies got moved to a 60 gallon tank with some maxi mini carpet anenomes and tube anenomes. My business partner had an extra anenome at home and I assume he brought it in. They are actually 76 days old now, I need to update the days. Check out my breeding journal on captivereefs.com there are more pics on there of them little buggers.

Shannon,
I know tube anemones will eat fish.  What I don't know is if they will eat clowns - I heard they do.  Have you kept tube anemones with clowns before?  Anyone know if this is fact or fiction?
