Before hatching I cleaned everything with hydrogen peroxide and I also dipped the eggs with Formalin MS (10grops per gallon) for about 6 minutes. I feel this helped with my potential fungus issue. Well, I looked in last night at midnight and it was a much better hatch rate. It seemed like 100% hatch rate. I went to sleep and checked on them about 9:15am. I'd say 75% are dead. They hatched and were scattered around the floor of the larva tank. Specific gravity and temp. matched the broadstock tank exactly. I had two air stones going at a low rate, one directly under the eggs and the other under the heater. I added rotigreen and rots to the tank to try to keep the 15-20 larva alive but I did leave in the dead ones. On second thought this will lead to polluted water and I will try to get them out. Overall, more success but still horrible survival rates.

Brian, the same thing happened to me the first time I tried to raise my ocellaris fry. I had 95% hatch rate and they all died seemed like instantly after hatching. They were all dead (but five) gathered around the rock from which the eggs were on. To this day I have no clue what happened. I took the water directly from the broodstock tank at the same time as the rock. the water was a bit cloudy from all the detrius that was on the rock that became dislodged when tranfering.

Most larva that made it past the first night (about 15) made it to Day 2. I had 2 to make it to day 4. My next spawn happened today, about 4pm, and I plan on starting greenwater the night of the hatch. I also suspect poor water quality lead to the 15 or so dying off so fast. I plan on getting an ammonia alert badge to assist me to know when to do water changes.

Well I forgot to update but no larva made it past day 4. I have researched and I believe broad stock nutrition is the root of my issues. I have increased feeding and diversity of foods for the past 5 days. My pair laid the next batch today and it seems a little bigger. I am just hoping to avoid mass losses during the first 48 hours. Fingers crossed........again.

I'm new here, but wouldn't it be better to catch the larva after they hatch, instead of putting the eggs in a different container the night before? I've heard lots of people with the same problem doing the same thing.

Hey Brian, Can you do me a favor and update the datasheet in the first post. Your Species name isn't correct. Pretty sure it should be "Amphiprion percula"

This is probably a stupid question but, You are letting the bubbles hit the eggs, right? In the pix the eggs are underneath the airstone, I assume that is just for showing the eggs...

The eggs are kept in the 12 o'clock position with air going directly over the eggs. The pictures show were the eggs fell off the pot and died. As you can see they either didn't hatch or died extremely soon after hatching. Looking at them, it seems the larva are still encased but it is hard to tell for me. Any suggestions? I am getting a bit discouraged. Thank guys and gals.

Ok, I figured that was the case. Just wanted to be sure. At this point I'm not sure what the problem is... possibly airflow is too high, or low. I guess the next step would be to get some fresh eggs under a scope to make sure they are viable.

Can you help me determine viable eggs with my next batch? I had plans are observing a hatch in my display tank to help determine this but the use of a microscope would be much better. I wouldn't know what to look for at this point so would really appreciate your help.

What is a good post spawn day to observe them? I will let you know when they lay again. Thanks Tal, I appreciate it.

I have tried different flow rates. I'll admit that this time was on the lower end of the flow rates I've tried. And my results were the worst. Good point!! I remember reading that too much is better than not enough. I will increase air flow to try and help. Does anybody have a link to their larva tank airflow? I will also search YouTube. Thanks.

They took awhile to lay their next batch but they did so today. I would like to take these over to Tal's to put them under the microscope to asses vitality. What day post hatch is best to do this? I hope to find a solution to my losses within the first 12-24 hours. I have a breeding rack set to go and it makes me sad to see it empty .
