20 hermits, no eggs?

I'm on the search for hermit crabs with eggs. and somehow I'm unable to find any at all. I brought home a handful of hermits from work and rubber banded them all to tiles so I could take a peek to see if they have eggs. none of them had eggs, and I even checked under the scope to make sure I at least had some females, which I did.
 
kinda scratching my head as to why I can't locate hermit crabs that have eggs.

It's winter. I bet the crabs are taking a break from spawning. As soon as the plankton gets good again in the wild I'm sure things will pick up. Do you know where they were collected?

think hermits that are kept in the aquarium are waiting till spring/summer? I got some things I want to try right now lol

Quite possibly. I think it's also quite likely that some/many hermits in the hobby are more temperate species and don't getting the environmental cues they need to initiate spawning. There's also the question of conditioning. How well fed are they?
