Batch 3 - June 6th, 2011 - Wednesday, July 13, 2011 10:35 PM
Batch 3
Egg Day 0 - 6/06 Mon - Spawn at 7PM.
Egg Day 8 - 6/14 Tue - Not looking good.  Completely lack of egg yolks.  Spawned after 10pm as usual.
Larvae Day 0 - 6/14 Tue - By 10:30pm, lot of larvae all swimming around. 2AM feeding.  All doing well.
Larvae Day 1 - 6/15 Wed - Video after feeding.  By accident, dropped the salinity to 1.020!
Larvae Day 2 - 6/16 Thur - Maintain at 1.021.  pH dropped to 7.79!
Larvae Day 3 - 6/17 Fri - Still alive! pH keep dropping.  Added tank water and increase it back to 7.83. Night time, still live and well.
Larvae Day 4 - 6/18 Sat - Early morning!!
Larvae Day 5 - 6/19 Sun - pH dropped to 7.4! Siphon the bottom dirt and water out and added tank water back.
Larvae Day 6 - 6/20 Mon - Not much change.
Larvae Day 7 - 6/21 Tue - They all swim slowly.  A couple of them start to have kink tail.  At night, found a few already have head bands.  One of them even swim like fish.
Larvae Day 8 - 6/22 Wed - Quite a few have head bands.  Increase air bubble seems to increase pH to 7.52 or cause of adding new water?
Larvae Day 9 - 6/23 Thur - Quite a few finished meta and started fighting.  Very cute.
Larvae Day 11 - 6/25 Sat - 2 left pre-meta.  At night, could find only 1 is still pre-meta.  Increase air bubble certainly increase pH.  The tank needed more air.
Fish Day 13 - 6/27 Mon - Still 1 left pre-meta.  Not even a faint stripe.
Fish Day 14 - 6/28 Tue - The last one finally shows some faint white head band.
Fish Day 15 - 6/29 Wed - Even the final one has completed the meta.  Many still don't seem to take Oto A.
Fish Day 21 - 7/05 Tue - Not much change.  Just got bigger.  They follow the fingers who feed them now.  Feeding B1 and tiny bit of B2.
Fish Day 24 - 7/08 Fri - 5 baby fish died.  Discovered in the morning. 3 more died after lights out. Some big and some small.  Could have been scared to death by night out?
Fish day 25 - 7/09 Sat - Everything seem good.  Feed them BBS at noon also LOT of BBS at night.  Oto B1 and B2 as usual.
Fish Day 27 - 7/11 Mon - Not much to write about.  Keep feeding Oto B1 and B2.  Some BBS.
Fish day 28 - 7/12 Tue - Saw a "fish ball" venturing to the middle of the tank.  Very cute.  More fish ball in the afternoon.
Larvae Day 0 - 2AM feeding

Larvae Day 1 - Video after feeding

Larvae Day 2

Larvae Day 5

Larvae Day 7 -  A couple of them start to have kink tail

Larvae Day 8 - Quite a few have head bands

Larvae Day 9 - Quite a few finished meta and started fighting.  Very cute.

Batch 5 - June 28th, 2011 - Wednesday, July 13, 2011 10:51 PM
Egg Day 0 - 6/28 Tue - Spawn in the morning or last night?  It's prabably gonna hatch on Day 7.
Egg Day 1 - 6/29 Wed
Egg Day 2 - 6/30 Thur
Egg Day 3 - 7/01 Fri - Prepared a tank with green water and have a bright light on it and try to get algae grows on all surface. At the same time, calibrate the new heater is at the correct temperature.   Also have a bucket of green water testing out the new design of phyto fuge.
Egg Day 4 - 7/02 Sat
Egg Day 5 - 7/03 Sun - Put in some rotifer and let it populate the tank.
Egg Day 6 - 7/04 Mon
Egg Day 7 - 7/05 Tue - Mix up the water between the rearing tank and parent tank.  Only a few eggs are silver.  I guess it's another Day 8 deal...    Guessed wrong. Hatched at night.
Larvae Day 0 - Only handful of eggs left and hatched.  Roughly about 20.
Larvae Day 2 - 7/07 Thu - My 'phyto fuge' method is working too well. Water stays solid dark green, i can't even see the bottom to clean the tank! Larvae Day 3 - 7/08 Fri - Did the first clean up and water change.  Sucked out maybe 5 dead bodies at the bottom after cleared out most of the water.
Larvae Day 4 - 7/09 Sat - Both rotifer bucket crashed.  Larvae are still peanut shape, probably from the existing population of rotifer in the tank.  Feeding them quite a bit of oto A few times a day.
Larvae Day 6 - 7/11 Mon - No rotifer to add. Feed some BBS twice and lot of Oto A.  Did the bottom cleaning a bit.  Some larvae started bending their tails.
Larvae Day 7 - 7/12 Tue - A few already have first white band and staying at the corner quietly.  Lot of fish racing again.  At night, all have calmed down.  Many of them are scaping the water surface to eat the Oto A.
Larvae Day 8 - 7/13 Wed - While the rearing tank is in deep dark green color due to the 11W CF bulb 3" from the water, the 5 gallon "green water" sump is getting lighter color.  Got a sample out and look at it via a 30x, rotifier!!  lol!  A big full bucket of dense rotifer in yet still green water after so many days.   I guess my design is really working, in a way.  Siphon out 1.5g of rotifer/green water from the sump to feed the larvae.  Dripping parent tank water into the rearing tank.  Late at night, many larvae who have hand band are all swimming in big circle very fast.
Larvae day 9 - 7/14 Thu - Rotifer feeding resume + Oto A & BBS. More system water dripping into the rearing tank.  Not going to use the sump water now since it's infested with rotifer.  Almost all except a couple of them are done with meta.
Larvae day 10 - 7/15 Fri - Took half of the water out to seed the tank for Batch 6.  pH drops to 7.4.  Water becomes much clearer. More often parent tank water dripping in.
Larvae day 11 - 7/16 sat - Took out lot of rotifer from this tank to Batch 6 tank.  Also added system tank water into it and let it overflow into the rotifer bucket.  Cleaned up the bottom few times today.  Found out a few "larvae" are still very "larvae" at the bottom while most of already done with meta.
Larvae day 12 - 7/17 Sun - Except 1 or 2, all are done with meta.  Removed water overflow and increasing water volume.  Trying to decrease the rotifer density.
Fish day 13 - 7/18 Mon - I don't see any larave in the middle of the tank any more.  I think all have passed meta.  Thin out half of tank worth of rotifer and fill in more system water and added more green. Keep trying to feed Oto A.
Fish Day 15 - 7/20 Wed - Roti is real thin now after thinning it out and added lot of system water. Only feeding the roti only once and small amount of BBS.
Fish Day 17 - 7/22 Fri - Can hardly see any Roti in the water. Still lot of copepods.  Water getting greener.
Fish Day 18 - 7/23 Sat - Still trying to feed them Oto A but look like they are still full from copepods.
Fish day 19 - 7/24 Sun - All of them finally taking Oto B1 very obviously now.

Larvae Day 8 - Illegal Racing At Night (in HD)

Larvae Day 8 - Eating rotifer (zoom in view)

Larvae Day 12 - Lot of pots!!

Larvae Day 15 - Clean shot of a copepod

Batch 6 - July 8th, 2011 - Wednesday, July 13, 2011 10:54 PM
Egg Day minus1 - ETA 7/08 Fri - Nothing happened, althought the mom does look like she is ready and both were cleaning the rock rigorously.
Egg Day 0 - 7/09 Sat - Spawned in the morning!!
Egg Day 4 - 7/13 Wed - Getting lazy and didn't even bother looking at the parent tank much.  Spray painted another 10g tank.  Got a new 5g bucket ready as the sump.  Filled 2.5g new saltwater at 1.0017 and poured in 1/4 L of nano.  Bubbling is on.  Light will be on 10am-10pm.
Egg Day 5 - 7/14 Thu - Have about 10 of them with silver eyes.  That's kinda early!  Started new green water bucket with 1/2L phyto.  Got dirty green water from Batch 5 tank to seed new tank.  Add water and lights on 24hr.
Egg Day 7 - 7/16 Sat - Almost half of them have silver eyes.  Should hatch tonight.
Larvae Day 0 - 7/16 Sat - Hatch after 10pm as usual.  A bit early but kinda expected since it spawned in the early morning. Should have take that into consideration.  About 50 of them.  Really tiny.  Put into a rearing tank with just about 10% green water.  Don't have the piping to feed live green water to it yet.
Larvae Day 1 - 7/17 Sun - All 50+ larvae seems to be very active.  Most of them are running in circle under the light. Keeping water stay green using the bucket green water prepared few days the larvae were hatched.
Larvae Day 2 - 7/18 Mon - Most still gather under the light.  Only 1 died at night. pH at 7.8 and water is not as green.  Rotifer density is very high.  Will have to thin it out tomorrow if the pH drops.
Larvae Day 4 - 7/20 Wed - A couple of them starts to have kink tail.  Lot of them hanging by the middle of the wall.
Larvae Day 5 - 7/21 Thu - Almost all of them starts to swim very slowly now.
Larvae Day 6 - 7/22 Fri - 1/3 of them are clinging to a side of the tank wall instead of swimming in the middle.  Quite a few of them have kink tail.
Larvae Day 7 - 7/23 Sat - The rotifer density finally dropped down to 5 or so.  Feed them some roti in the afternoon.
Larvae Day 8 - 7/24 Sun - All are in pre/mid-meta right now.
Fish Day 9 - 7/25 Mon - Majority of them are done with meta and clinging on the tank wall.
Fish Day 11 - 7/27 Wed - Still no clear sign of them taking Oto A.  Tank still flooded with roti and copepods.  Added half a bottom of phyto to keep it green.
Fish Day 12 - 7/28 Thu - A few taking Oto A.  Others just cling to the corners.
Fish day 14 - 7/30 Sat - Not much change.  Few take Oto A.  Some other seems to try to chase for it but doesn't seem to eat it.
Fish Day 17 - 8/2 Tue - They are living on plain water and whatever pod left over.  Feeding them Oto B1.
Fish Day 21 - 8/6 Sat - They are eating Oto B2 now. Sold 10 of them and mixed the rest into Batch 5 tank.
Fish Day 25 - 8/10 Wed - Big fish ball!

Batch 6 Hatched 7/16 Sat - Thursday, July 21, 2011 12:14 AM
Hatch after 10pm as usual.  A bit early but kinda expected since they were spawned in the early morning. Should have taken that into consideration.

Used "siphon with funnel with LED->BRT->overflow->sump->pump back to parent tank" method to collect larvae.  About 50 of them.  Really tiny.  Put into a rearing tank with just about 10% green water.  Don't have the piping to feed live green water to it yet.

Re:Batch 5 - Sunday, July 24, 2011 10:26 AM
Batch 5 is 19 days old today.  As of yesterday, they still wouldn't take Otohime.  I believe it's due to the large amount of pots in the tank.  It was not intentional.  It somehow got contaminated into the tank I believe from day 1 when I got the rotifer from Batch 5's tank.  Batch 5 tank's rotifer was booming to a crazy rate back then.  Had over 30/ml.

Today, the baby fish all jump at the Oto B1 when I feed them.

Copepods on Batch 6 tank wall:

Batch 6 is 9 days old.  Most of them are done with meta and clinging to the tank wall.  Still trying to feed them Oto A but they don't seem to be interested.  Not feeding them any NHBS and leave the rotifer density low by feeding them rotifer only once a day or less.  There are some copepods in the tank from contamination though.

Batch 7 eggs are on Day 6  today but already have lot of silver eggs.  ETA suppose to be tomorrow.  Going to turn off the pump before light out, just in case.  Only about 50 eggs left.

Update: 2 hr after light out.  Three hatched.  Weird.  Put them into the rearing tank with green water.  Added rotifer/pod from batch 6 tank into this one.

Re:Batch 7 - Friday, July 29, 2011 1:10 AM
Batch 7 are on Day 7 today, and only another 10 hatched!  This is the 2nd day hatching already.  Still have lot of eggs left.  It never hatched like this before.  Majority of the eggs always hatched in 1 day before.

I'm starting to suspect that my new larvae catcher's LED is too bright.  From last batch, the first time I used that LED, only half of the eggs were hatched.  And this time, 3 hatched on first day, and 10 hatched on 2nd day...

It could be that, or it could be related to a slight change in temperature.

Your fish are beautiful, and very well developed for 3 months. Great work.

Thank you!   I got the top dress recipe from one of your posts awhile ago.
