Moving clownfish eggs - Saturday, July 23, 2011 12:06 PM

I have a pair of maroons in a 100 gallon refuge with eggs. Their flowerpot is located on the bottom and I have no real way to know when they have spawn or how far along the eggs are so I can catch the babies. Will there be problems is I flip the flowerpot up (still underwater) every 24 hours or will this cause the parents to stop breeding or stop caring for the eggs?

Also what is my best bet for a reef safe tile I can pick up at home depot or lowes?

Lifting the pot should not be a problem providing you replace it in the same position/orientation. Normally the eggs will be located in the top of the pot (between 10 and 2 o'clock ) so make sure you know where they are so you don't replace it and they are at the bottom.

Thanks. I was worried they may abandon ship if I started messing with their pot.

They're usually ok. However they do sometimes consume the eggs if they feel insecure. Its ok to lift the eggs with most though.

Regular ceramic tiles from HD are fine.

I've  always just used the cheap plain ones that don't have any real color or anything to them without any problems. They are usually 4x4 tiles, less than $1 a piece.
