Reef lobsters (Enoplometopus debelius)
-
Saturday, July 30, 2011 6:19 AM
I have one of these in my tank (called scampi - husbands weired sense of humour) and noticed another one at my LFS. I was wondering if anyone has any thought or tips on breeding. From what I can gather they are agressive to others of the same species, unless mated. So how do you tell the sex apart, are they like shrimp? Anyone actually had a go with them? Any links you can send me? Thanks!

So by all accounts - lobsters are sexed by the appendages behind the walkers. On the male they are bony, while the female is soft. This is for food lobsters, but I would assume its the same for all lobsters? Time to catch Scampi and have a look...

You have to hold it upside down and check the area ( a mag.glass could help).Or easier, check the exuvia (molt). But even when you get a pair, you should keep them separated with eggcrate,or you will lose one.

Why,you are very clearly exposing the copulatory parts! The female lacks them and has a longitudinal slit, more forward, between the last pereiopods (legs). The LFS people won´t see that, you must go with a hand loupe and check yourself. And I was surprised to see that we have a white zimbabwan, are there still many there?.

Sorry Luis, I think I am "lobster blind" because I have no idea where you're looking at. LOL Can you put some arrows in the picture highlighting the structures you're using as reference ?

I can not, that´s beyond my capabilities But it is easy to see,in the front view,it is the triangle or Y shaped structure..And in the profile,it is the area with the white spoon background. And Alex, forgive me for taking skin colour things lightly.I know racism and colonialism issues are still present there.I just saw those pink fingers and couldn´t resist to show how smart I was Didn´t mean to offend.
