Some help from Reed M. for the Class - Wednesday, August 31, 2011 9:22 AM
0
Well, we are still looking at record high temperatures here but they are supposed to break over the weekend. Maybe I will be able to start shipping soon.

But the big news:

Reed Mariculture has offered to help all you budding copepodologists a bit by offering enough of their new RotiGrowComplete (which is a buffered RotiGrow+ and ClorAmX mix from what I understand) to keep you going for a couple of months. Enough time for you to hone your mad skillz and see if you want to continue to culture these little guys. All that you will need to pay is shipping costs.

I'm still waiting to hear about the time frame (they are bottling it special and need to wait until they are making up a new batch).

I'm making up a list of people who would be interested in receiving these packages so I can send it along to Gresham. If you are interested, please PM me with:

Full Name
Full Address
Phone
Email

Thanks Gresham! You guys rock, as always!

Thanks for organizing all this, Andy!  It's seriously helping me so far in starting out.

While my rotifer culture still doesn't seem to be doing much, I'm hoping to make most of my major blunders now with cultures I can easily replace.  I've got a goal to shoot for and lots to read.  Still need to get a microscope though!

No problem, y'all. Sorry that I've been in work dungeons for most of the last month. My boss sucks. And one of the really ugly projects with tons of art to place that I just finished typesetting is apparently being re-written, which means starting over from scratch. Sigh. And with a couple of rushes already this week. So, I'm apparently buried again.

In the meantime, it looks like I could again do a Thurs. -> Fri. delivery for some lucky class member. I could almost try one for Saturday -> Monday, though that's more problematic with weekend plans. But, it's not even supposed to hit 80 this weekend. Otherwise, early next week will likely work, too.

Who still needs cultures?

Great idea Tal... please email me at Gresham@reedmariculture.com with "MBI+copepod+RGcomplete" in the subject line and let me know you want yours included in Tal's shipment.  Shipping will be MUCH cheaper if you can have a central point.  There is not much difference between 1 and 10

Say, Tal, should I send out a package to you tomorrow? If so, how many cultures should I plan for? I just restarted my big 5 gal. copepod culture today but it's still dense. I should still be able to do a big draw off it in the morning.

I can cover the shipping for now and we can worry about splitting all that up later if you'd like.

Mine arrived yesterday.  I'm currently out of town, but luckily my tank sitter was there when FedEx came by.

Gresh, do you think it will be okay in the freezer?  I'm pretty sure the algae will be fine, but I don't know about anything else in the mix.

I'm not Gresham, but I'll answer anyway.  Refrigerate it only.  Keep it below 41F, but don't freeze.

RotiGrow Complete arrived Friday.  It's Monday. I've used it at 3 times the volume I was feeding RotiGrow + for my rotifers, as directed.  This morning, there are significantly more rots in the filter, and when checked under the scope there are quite a few 2 egg females, whereas it has been quite a while since I saw any 2 egg females under the old regimen. I was skeptical at first, but the conversion is happening.  This may be a great product.  Thanks to the Reeds and Gresham.
