Man, these are easy to breed sexually. These have been spawning and settling successfully in my display tank for over a year now. This is a daughter colony that settled a good ways away from the parent that's spawning tonight:

Nice photos, is it taking over your tank?

Thanks. I think it probably has plans for world domination, but it's not very good at it. It's pretty spotty and it's a very small polyp, so it's more like undergrowth than anything. It's definitely spreading, though. The little daughter colony that started on my back glass after the mother colony spawned the first time is now probably 12" x 4-5".

Great looking!!!!

How do I get some of this?

Is there a difference in the male and female? How do you tell the difference?

They've also started a cool asexual reproduction where they make little balls of polyps that swing around in the currents until they separate from the colony. It looks like one of mine has about three of those going right now. So whenever I send out copepods to you, I'll send one of those out, too.

So far as sexing goes, my guess is that either each polyp is hermaphroditic or the colony as a whole is hermaphroditic (usually older polyps--the ones in the middle--are female and the ones around the periphery are male).

but they still can asexually reproduce? The the offspring may be a male and then there's a possibility of sexual production?

I think they are hermaphrodites, one way or another. I think sexual reproduction is a big part of their strategy and they have a way to self-fertilize. I started with one small colony and it was able to reproduce sexually when it was the only colony in the tank. The colonies probably have to get to a certain size in order to mature. After that, look out.
