maturing size of perculas - Tuesday, September 27, 2011 2:22 AM

Hey everyone,
My LFS has got about a dozen tank raised perc's which are nearly 3.5" in size. So will of these be females?? i was planning on pickin up a pair from this but am skeptical that all of these might be females. Or can i just pick up two of them and let them pair up?

Are they all in seperate tanks?  Females will fight very aggressively if they are in the same tank and can not get far enough away from each other.  So if they are not in the same tanks it would be easy to tell if the lfs will move the fish together for you.  At that size though you are right, most of them have to be females, I would think.

they are in the same tank but arent fighting, they came in just yesterday, so maybe it could be because of stress, or should i pick up one of the larger ones from this lot and another 2" size from a different LFS?? will it work??
i am new here hence having so many questions :-)

I would think this would be the best approach.

Or even better if you want a near 100% chance of them pairing up - Get a near Juvi. (~1-1.5"). That way, the large female will have no issues what so ever bullying the smaller male and they should pair rather quickly. (1-6 months)
