Adding other species to a clownfish broodstock tank - Friday, December 23, 2011 12:25 PM

Hi,

I have an extremely shy percula, she hates coming out of her pot.  She wasn't so bad when she had another fish in there, but her friend jumped for it.  I plan to pair her back up, but would also like to add another fish or two to make the aquarium seem a little more safe to her.

That has me wondering about adding multiple breeding pairs to the same aquarium.  Any suggestions for types of fish to add?  I was thinking about Bangaii Cardinalfish, would they be comfortable breeding with a pair of perculas in the tank?  Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

John

LOL, that would be important.  I have a couple tanks I could use, but this one is a 20L, also have 10g, 20H, and 40B available.

Thanks.

with the 40 I can see a couple of pairs, but I wouldn't think there's enough room in the others. I don't have any experience with it, it's just my thoughts. Never hurts to try something. None of us would be doing any of this without someone trying it

Have you thought of small gobies ? Neon gobies could be fit even in small tanks.
Other species may require larger tanks.

I currently have a mated pair of banggais with a bonded pair or percs in my 15 gallon. the banggais mated but the male ate the eggs.

Co-culturing is a fine way to add more pairs to a system. You want to choose fish according to tank size as well as spawning and incubating behavior. The species mentioned above are good choices, Banggai might be a bit skittish with clowns though.

Other ideas to mix with clowns would be P. fridmani or Assessors.

thanks for all the suggestions, appreciate it.  I'll probably try a couple of them.  I worry a little about the Bangaii as I've rad they are skittish, but with how skittish this clown is, they should fit right in.
