•  1" Strainers don't fit 1" pipe

Am I supposed ot use 1/ 1/4 coupling. I'm a bit lost. I tried test fitting the strainer with a 3/4" pipe inside it, but that wasn't a snug fit. Are they the same diameter as your 1" pipes? What size coupling would it be. 1" or the next size up. Lowes had a pack of 10.
