I always feed my broodstock a varied diet of mostly frozen foods but I'm wondering if there is any particular type of food, more fat or protein, that would make a difference when fed on the expected spawn day.

I notice that mine don't eat on the day they spawn... or if they do it is very sporadic.

Interesting, mine never refuse food.

I think mine eat more just before spawning, and if I walk by the tanks while they are at it, they look at me like, "where's my snack?"

My Darwin's wouldn't eat on the evening they were to spawn but my Onyx would eat literally minutes before. I am wondering how quickly the food you feed would be processed and nutrition delivered to the eggs. Maybe the key meal would be the night before.

My female Ocellaris might nibble the day of the spawn but the day after she lays is a glutton... almost jumping out of the tank to get the food and won't allow the male to eat.  Next day back to normal.

My clowns(I assume we are all speaking clowns here) stop spawning, take their food, and then return to their thing.

That's what I was wondering too.

Yes, clowns. That's why I put it in this forum. Mine do that too if I happen to walk in and feed while they're spawning. Piggy
