For all of those people that will be traveling from afar the Official Hotel for the workshop this year is the Marriott at CenterPoint. They have given us a special room rate of $79 per night for the the conference this year which is a steal as this is a beautiful hotel. To make booking easier they have setup a link everyone to use to make reservations quick and painless. You can find the link and all information on the workshop at http://www.mbiworkshop.com

It would be really nice, and a possible fundraiser, if y'all could video the presentations and burn DVDs. That would surely help the folks over the pond, and some of us would buy them just to have them, even though we will be attending.

There are two hurdles withthe recording. The first one is that it really isn't up to but rather the speakers if we can record anything at all. Typically the speakers aren't up for this becuase they spend a good amount of time and effort putting these presentations together and if it gets recorded and spread around the Internet then the value of all that work is diminished. The second hurdle is one of equipment. We actually tried to record a couple of the presentations that we had permission to record last year but the recording turned out to be useless. In order to get a video where the sound and video is of any real use you do need a little better than your average home camcorder.

One of my customers does this sort of thing as part of their staging and equipment hire business (in Perth, Australia so not useful for this event but it should give an idea), so I had a chat to him about it. eg. Estimated cost of production $5,000 (camera(s), mixing equipment and camera man hire, editing and DVD production) If the comparative hotel and ticket is approx $140.00 and you are able to sell the DVD at this sort of price, then about 40 copies would need to be sold to cover costs.

By doing this as a commercial thing rather than a "I just recorded this" then you can also offer the speakers of an ongoing royalty from each unit sold plus provide some protection to the content. If the speaker is not interested in a royalty, then use the value as an investment in next years event (or this years). Whilst I understand that its a bit of a pain in the a$$ to organise recording something like this, it is an opportunity for the breeding community out side of the Michigan to invest in the future of MBI plus support the event plus gain access to the information presented. Obviously I cannot speak for others, but I would be more than willing to invest this sort of money for access to the presentations.

Just got in an order from Premium Aquatics in Indianapolis, IN, and I was surprised to see that included in the box was a small flyer for the MBI Workshop! Way to go!
