same here. I thought the color, and being round, are the main things that make it work so well.

I purchased the tub from Walmart today - it seems to be not all that sturdy. Any issues using it? I'm looking for something that is not black, and was hoping this was going to be a cost-effective solution.

What color were you looking for? And as long as they aren't flimsy (there are few out there that look like they can fold over) they should be fine. Batavia eh? I used to live in St. Charles - small world! Edited for spelling!

Mine are pretty sturdy. I mean I can't sit on it or anything, but they don't fold and twist. I got the ones at Walmart.

I used to live in St. Charles - small world! They do feel flimsy. As my first project, I am starting with a difficult project, H. Erectus. Since they are black, I was looking for a tub that I could see them more easily. I am currently using a 20 gallon glass tank and believe the water flow would be better in the tub. My first attempt, I was only able to keep them to 20 days. Small world, indeed.

I was just concerned that since they bend fairly easy, that long-term use might be an issue. Kind of like the issues people face with using the inexpensive rubbermaid containers as sumps.

You might be able to lay some white vinyl on the bottom of the BRT to better see the little guys.

I bought a 6 of the $5.97 BRT's from Walmart and all larvae from 6 different breeding pairs all died by day 10. I don't want to say NOT to use these, but IME they did not work, so I am NOT using them anymore. Now I have 6 new trash cans I will try the Tuff Stuff and Fortiflex BRT's from Tractor Supply next.

Hm, I haven't used mine yet. My friend bought some cheap ones a while ago, and found that larvae died in them as well. Then he used them to raise the juveniles, and they worked fine. I wonder if they need some time with saltwater and heat to leach out what they are going to leach out, and afterwards, be fine for larvae.
