Can anyone identify this critter - Friday, June 1, 2012 4:02 AM

The video sort of says it all.

The item it is standing on is a blue tang egg.  The video is at 40x magnification so it would put this guy at or about 0.05mm or less.
Please only bother with the first 3 seconds and the last 10 seconds.  I uploaded direct to YouTube and dont know how to trim out the middle where it stalled.

Do we think its good or bad?

Its an odd critter, it would walk around on its legs, sort of strutting about, then stick he "fan" end up and fan for a while, then drop down, strut back and do it again.

It reminded me of a little dog.  I was not happy about all of this being cut off in the middle by youtube and replaced with a big stall.

Oh, you had all that recorded?  How interesting.  I wonder if it is a threatening critter or a harmless critter?  Did you buy a microscope or are you still taking your images with that crazy cool camera set up?

Even better solution than purchasing one.
One of the guys on a local reef site, that I have only meet a couple of times had one that had been sitting in his cupboard for a couple of years.
I asked for advice on the site, if anyone had experience with microscopes as to what I should focus on in terms of features.

I now have it on extended loan, so it is getting some use.

Its funny though, for some things the camera is still easier (as the subject gets bigger).

I would think it's some type of ciliate of some sort.

luis a m, that looks like the little guy.
From a quick bit of reading, it seems the walking on cirri is quite unique.
Now I need to find him/her/it again or a cousin and try and video some of its antics

They are like miniature roaches;flat and crawling around scavenging.

Oh lucky you Darren!  I've been thinking of looking at microscopes...  Cool to see a Euplote up so close.
