General
Species:  Octopus chierchiae
Social Structure:  Non monogamous pairs that only come together for mating
Size of Individuals:  Males 18mm, females 25mm
Age of Individuals:  unknown
Date added to Tank:  3/20/08

Broodstock Tank Details
Size of Tank:  Each animal was kept in a 12x12 inch cube plumbed into a larger system
Substrate Details:  None, single barnacles added to cubes for octopus to use as dens
Filtration Details:  Filter socks, protein skimmers, RDSB, GFO and GAC 
Water Changes:  20% monthly
Water Temperature:  78
Lighting:  None, ambient, sunlight
Lighting Cycle:  None, except for the sun      
Other Tank Inhabitants:  none

Broodstock Feeding Details
Food Types:  Saltwater grass shirmp (Crangnon sp.), FW ghost shrimp, locally caught shore crabs (Species ?)
Feeding Schedule:  One prey item daily or every other day

Spawning Details
Date of First Spawn: Mating 4/20/08, and 5/5/08 to a different male, eggs discovered 5/20/08
Spawn Time of Day:  9pm (that is when the male and female were put in a breeding tank)
Dates of Consecutive Spawns:  Eggs discovered 3 more times, approx 3 weeks after previous hatch.  
Courtship Details:  See video. Male approached female, roughly embraced her dorsally and inserted the hectocotolyzed arm into her mantle. Mating lasted for approx 4 minutes
Egg Size:  4-6mm     
Egg Color:  Clear/Creamy
Egg Count:  approx 25

Hatch Date:  6/17/08
Hatch Time of Day:  evening
# Days after Spawn: 28 days
Larvae Description:  Bright orange, formed like adults except for color. Chromatophores begin to really develop within 10 days and orange color fades in the first 3 weeks.

Temperature:  78
Size of Larval Tank:  Each hatchling was kept in its own jar or box that allowed water to flow through it. All containers kept in a water table. 
Substrate Details:  None
Other Tank Decor:  Opaque or calcarious tube
Filtration Details:  Filter socks, protein skimmers, RDSB, GFO and GAC 
Lighting:  ambient
Lighting Cycle:  ambient
Water Changes:  20% monthly

Larval Feeding Details
Food Types:  Gammarus amphipods, live mysid
Feeding Schedule:  2 prey items per animal per day, both at same time.

Metamorphosis/Settlement
Date of Settlement Start:  6/17/08
Days after Hatch:  0
Date of Settlement End:  6/30/08 (unclear as sto what settlement actually is in these animals. I am using the appearance of adult coloring as a "settlement" reference
Description of Fry: miniature version of adults, but orange in color

Additional Information
Currently (June 12) breeding more of these and preparing to launch into the world of F2
Salinity in all tanks is kept at 33.5ppt or 1.024sg

The first time sucked! This go round it seems easier, and we are successful enough that I am experimenting with co habitating hatchlings.

Woot! F2 today! Animals mated and spawned produced young that have now mated, spawned and produced eggs! WOOT!
