Who wants to live in Melbourne Florida and raise Centropyge?(... besides myself)

I posted this flyer at the local university, FIT, and didn’t receive much interest. So I figured that I’d try a more specific, yet broader audience, here, and some other forums. My intent is to work intensively on raising these fish over the next year and possibly involve other equally excited individuals in the process. Please let me know if you have any suggestions on how I could find interested people or if you are interested yourself and have questions. Thank you Peter

Who are you, and why have we not heard from you? I'm very interested in your progress with dwarf angels!

Who am I? That's a good question KathyL. I probably need to put together a simple website that answers that. A website with some sort of relevant bio and also a description of my facility here and what I have been doing up until now. Is that a good way to go about it? I'm new to forums, and making websites for that matter. I do want to share what I have been doing here, but I think that would be most easily explained with lots of pictures and captions. Which may be easier on a website then on a forum. Any thoughts? Is there a general forum format to introduce what I have been doing? Should this question be a separate thread? I'll work on a website.

There are forums here for "system builds" and for breeding journals. We recently added family specific forms for angelfish, and others. You can access them by clicking on the "forum list" button on the bottom left of any page.

Cool. Thanks fishtal. I decided to post more details of what I have going on in a blog: http://flameangelfish.blogspot.com/ Right now it is just the very basics, but I intend to fill in more detail in the very near future. Thanks for looking.

Are those larvae catchers on the sides of the brood barrels? Can you post more detailed pictures?

Egg collector for wdt (I was in Ashville NC last weekend visiting my sister) [link=javascript:void(InsertSmiley('%5Battachment=0%5D'))]IMG_0873.jpg[/link] [link=javascript:void(InsertSmiley('%5Battachment=1%5D'))]IMG_0878.jpg[/link] [link=javascript:void(InsertSmiley('%5Battachment=2%5D'))]IMG_0880.jpg[/link] Usually it's cleaned of algae and scum. But I haven't collected eggs in half a year so there was no point in cleaning it. I put in the pvc "J" piece, netting bag and "whisper bio bag" divider before collecting at night. Then I remove these parts, with eggs in the net bag, a couple hours after lights out. The main unit is a tupperware like pitcher I bought at "big lots", though I saw them some where else recently. Maybe Walmart? I found that paint sieve bags from the hardware store have a good mesh size, just small enough to catch the eggs but big enough to allow the rest of the crud through. The pvc "j" piece helps keep the eggs on the surface, less disturbed

Hi Pete! What an excellent adventure you are on! Very exciting to see for sure. I notice you use SeaChem Marine Buffer which is a product I also really like. I would like to encourage you to try bulk Sodium bicarbonate as it should have the same effect you describe - maintain alkalinity without directly altering pH - except at a much lower cost. Sodium carbonate is another similar additive which is the one that will directly alter the pH. Both of these products can be bought from www.bulkreefsupply.com for very reasonable cost. Essentially, Sodium bicarbonate is baking soda, and sodium carbonate is "baked" baking soda. You mention that in your college years you wished an opportunity like this would have come up for you, and I feel the same way!
Don't let fear and common sense stop you! =]

Thanks for the advice and encouragement EasterEggs. I might be increasing my sea water consumption significantly in the near future so a cheeper buffer alternative is worth looking into. Thank you.

One can also bake one's own baking soda to get sodium carbonate.

I have a fish room lit up on a daily light cycle all year long. I have five 55 gallon drums in front of the house (for sea-water collection). And now I'll be baking large trays of white powder. I'm sure the neighbors think I'm up to something illicit. Seriously though, I appreciate the input and it seems, for my situation, a route worth exploring further. Thank you KathyL
