Good luck!

My male (and female before I lost her) have decided that they really like an old conch shell that I put in.

I can't tell from the pics, does the male has black on the ventral fins?

Interesting.  I haven't been able to find one with black on its fins yet.  I've observed at least a dozen.  I've been trying to get a pair started as well.

In the shop I got these from there were two pairs, and they were being sold as pairs, both pairs had one with the dark spot, although it was way smaller in the pair I left at the shop. So while I belive it stands as a way of sexing them its a worth note that the dark spot may vary in size and darkness, I think I read that some one was saying it may go with age!

I just need them to spawn now, I'm really not sure the pipe is secret enough for them, just a gut feeling but I may try a different home for them!

Well I've moved these to part of a 700 ltr broodstock system so there now in a two ft tank.

Now I'm not sure but they may have spawned in there pipes, but if so the eggs are very scattered and attached to the tubes individualy,

Does any one have an links to pictures of a nest so I can compare?

Well doesn't look like it was a spawn.

But I'm really happy with how these guys are feeding, I know they can hide and eventually disappear in reefs, but these guys are out feeding without issue, looking to be putting on weight as well.

Guess its just a waiting game now

Congratulations. I'm still running the tank fallow, but I'm interested to get back to the gobies.

well I think im noticing some changes in these fish,  I can now visibly tell them apart the one with the dark spot on the fin, has taken a chunkier rounder appearance, with darker thicker markings,  the other is thiner with lighter markings,  not sure if this is a sign of them maturing,  is the male the one with the dark spot on its fin or the female?

ill try to get a pick if I can, to show what im talking about,  hope to see eggs soon

well ive bit the bullet and added a thin layer of sand to try to make it a bit more homely for them

I also have my eye on two identical fake rocks that should allow me to see any nests, not sure if I will get them yet, but considering it

Yeah that is the thread so far!!

Shame about the pics, I can't make out the one of eggs and not quite sure how far he got!

Also his strain of rots confuses me, but then I guess that's not to hard ;-)

He shows a pic with all four of his rotifers including a size scale, so it really shouldn't be that that confusing.    Just measure yours.

Oh you are lucky, I haven't been able to locate a source for S-strain in Canada yet.  I've been watching your Yasha journal (and the other one) as I've been looking for a pair for several months, but could never find one with black on the pelvic fins.  I finally found an "assumed pair" yesterday.

Well I've had some interesting event!

They all got very secretive for a few days and I think there was an egg or two attached to the top of the pipe, but it might not have been

When this disappeared I noticed both were more actively feeding again

I also noticed the male spitting food into the pipe I think for the shrimp but possible the female

Female

Male

There easy to identify by there chin spots which really helps

I'm waiting for them to get all secretive on me again now!!

It all looks quite encouraging. I kind of have doubts that was an egg, but the rest of the behaviors say that it won't be long to me. Good luck!

Yeah I think your right I keep getting excited but I think it's some sort of hitchhiker but not anything I've seen in my reeding days

I'm tempted to remove the pipe for a clean but if I can just get a nest first there be a natural need to swap over the pipe work

Re: Breeding Journal, Species: Stonogobiops Yasha - Monday, May 13, 2013 6:12 AM
Well the female is even bigger then the last pic, I'm just waiting for her to disappear then re appear with a smaller stomach, hopefully then the male will be hidden, this seems to be the pattern, although I'm right at the start of it and have so far not managed to confirm eggs yet

Also the pistol seems to time his blocking off of the pipes with eggs being present, I'm going to put up a separate post about this as I find it very interesting if he is somehow involved in the process
