New bangais - Tuesday, December 18, 2012 12:23 AM
0
I just got a shipment of cardinalfish in yesterday.  The Bangai seem to have some damage to their first dorsal fins.  They are sort of frayed and fuzzy.  I'm trying to decide whether this is just shipping damage, or is it fungus.  Can someone tell me how I can tell?
I have an antibiotic med and one with malacite green and formalin.  Should I use one of these?
This is a first time fish for me.  The others (PJ and Orb cardinalfsh) in the same shipment are fine.

Hmm.."frayed" wouldn't have me worried, but "fuzzy"???  Fuzzy doesn't sound good, but honestly, there aren't a lot of marine diseases that express as "fuzzy"...."fuzzy" is more of a freshwater thing typically.

Without pictures impossible to tell what's going on really.

The fins look like they are separating at the tip.  The spine is straight but the covering is shredded.

Usually that is transport damage, poor water quality and squabbling in holding.

Thanks,   They certainly don't seem to be getting any worse.  How long will it take to see healing taking place?

Yeah, I've seen Banggai look a little ragged due to these reasons too. They should heal up pretty quickly if they aren't stressed.

I've processed thousands of them as an importer and very few did not look like that upon arrival.  Quite often within a week the worst barely showed any signs, but we kept great water quality and fed quite often (for a wholesaler).
