My eggs don't hatch. Cinnamon Clowns - Sunday, January 6, 2013 1:18 AM

Hi, I've been trying to hatch eggs from my Cinnamon clown pair for several months and I can't seem to get more than 5 or six live larva.   I've reviewed this thread    http://www.mbisite.org/Fo...6847    several times and I can't find anything wrong.  I got 30 from them a few weeks ago but they all died from that batch.
I expect hatch at Day 10 according to what happens in the DT.  If I pull them on the evening of Day 9 but only a few hatch and none the next night.
If I pull them on Day 8 maybe a couple hatch but then none on the next night.
I don't know what to change.
Any help would be appreciated

Cinnamons were my first clowns, I love em. I found its easier for me to just figure out the night they are going to hatch, then turn off the pumps in the tank when the lights go out. Then when they hatch I use a flashlight to lure the fry to the top of the water and then I scoop them out. It works great, just be gentle with them and you should have plenty that survive. Heres a link to my journal.

I may just try this again.  Last time I had no success.  they didn't had till some time in the middle of the night.
They have laid this time on a piece of coral skeleton, so I can't pull this lot before hand.
How do you know when to use the flashlight if any light on hatch night stops them from hatching?  It seems like a paradox.  And the DT is in the family room where we spend the evening.  Is the heater light enough to postpone the hatch?
It should be 2 hours after lights out, right?

A flashlight is aimed at the water surface, not at the hatching eggs. The best way to collect larvae without removing the eggs before hatch is by using a larval snagger like the ones Chad Vossen makes:  http://www.reefs.com/blog...with-lipogramma-klayi/

It has a small light that attracts the larvae to the trap while you're sleeping. That's the simple explanation.
