Hiding Wires
-
Monday, June 10, 2013 6:03 PM
Hi All, I have a 6' x 4; rack that I'm using to setup a broodstock system. Anyone have any creative ways to organize the wires? 7 Heaters 2 Ranco Thermostats 2 Power filters for QT tanks 1 Air Pump 1 Skimmer 1 Return Pump 1 Strip lights Pump for QT Fuge light for QT Fuge UAS That's ALOT of wires. I'll take a picture later of what it looks like. It looks like a major firehazard. I find organzing them seems counterproductive, because I have to undo work when I shift things around.

Lowe's or home depot sell a plastic tube that is spiral cut or cut on one side that you can bandage around wires to organize them into one collection. Not sure if that helps in your spot or not, but I've used it to clean things up and keep them out from underfoot before. Think they are usually 8' sections or so.

try to get your outlets up near the ceiling. I had them installed that way. You can also use a drip loop and some 6 outlet extension cords. I like the fire safe ones. The real cheapies are a fire hazard. you can use a drip loop near the outlet and mount the 6 outlet strip high above your aquariums. The posts of my stand extend above my top rim, and I mounted some strip extensions there. If you keep them up high, there is less hazard. Do not plug anything in until you get a good Ground Fault Circuit Interruptor installed. This hobby is not worth risking your life.

Luckily everything on my bottom floor is fault protected. I'm going to have to get creative I think. The only thing running are the two tanks above. I'm still tweaking those 4 10Gs and the sump.

You should mount those power strips as far from the water as possible.

I'm starting to think I should mount a board on that wall to the left, and mount the power strips there. That way the water would really have to travel to get to anything.

Mounting it to the low ceiling there might be a good idea. I have all my plugs in the fishroom in the ceiling.
