I thought I WAS babying it! Delicate little things! So I need to put a new tile in with the broodstock in the next couple days and then collect a few days worth of eggs and get going again...I need another fish bowl or two though. Well, I should have about 10 days until I have larvae (assuming they are spawning ATM) to get a few

60! The little guy died the other day. Bleh. Back to the beginning...but I should be home every day (no out of town trips) for the next run.

I'm 8 days in to a new run, and this afternoon I had 10-15 left. I've been using RG complete this run which makes me feel like I'm cheating (I know it isn't, but...). I think it helps a lot because they get a nice balanced enrichment of the rotifers instead of having me switch between whatever phyto I have handy at the moment. They were started on rotifers as usual and I have started added only Apocyclops back in after the first couple days. They have had two "doses" of newly hatched bbs and I saw some orange in the guts, but I want to use nhbbs very sparingly. I have added in quite a few Tigriopus as well and I'm hoping that will work well as a substitute for the nhbbs. They've been getting full light during the day, and a dimmer nightlight at night, but are never completely in the dark.

So HOW are you using RG Complete? As an enrichment and rotifer grow, or are you also using it as greenwater?

I am using it mainly as greenwater. I am using Roti-rich (FAF) and live nanno for growing rotifers. For now...

I had a run that lasted about 14 days when the last one died off. Story of my life with these larvae. I had a nice size hatch this morning of about 50-55 larvae that were put into the fish bowl (one gallon). I didn't sterilize the fish bowl, I just wiped it down with a paper towel and rinsed it out. I started them on L rotifers and RG complete. I hope to do a large water change about a week in (to remove most of the rotifers) and then try to only feed copepods after that. I may even move them in a seeded tank with just copepods Maybe then I can avoid bbs entirely.

Today is day 8 for this most recent run. I have 25 left. Today I did a 90%+ water change to remove most of the rotifers. Then I gave them Tigriopus, Arctodiaptomus salinus, Euterpina and Apocyclops. I also gave them a small amount of rotifers so they have something to keep them going until they get the hang of eating the copepods.

OK, so...hmm. You should talk to Gresh about using RG Complete as greenwater. I and others early on found we had trouble with using RotiGrow Plus as greenwater, and since RG Complete is, to my understanding, based on RG+, I wonder if you could face similar problems in your larval rearing. Maybe, maybe not. Could also depend on how MUCH you use. Forgive me, but I don't recall...have you tried offering TDO as a 2nd food after Rotifers at all?

I actually seem to be having better survival of the larvae up to this point using the RG complete (over using whatever live phyto I have handy). It's possible that it's causing a new set of problems, but it IS working better than what I was doing before. I think. Or maybe I'm just getting better at getting more of them this far before I kill them...ha! I haven't tried TDO yet, mainly because I don't have any :/ I have tried other assorted dried foods that I crushed and there hasn't been any interest that I could see. It's worth continuing to try though. I may ask around my local club and see if anyone has any I could try. I'm afraid to go look in the fish bowl this morning...they could all be dead!

I just saw one take down a nearly full grown Tangerine pod, so perhaps I will be able to get away with skipping bbs

Hatch last night, perhaps 30 or so. I put them in the 3-4 gallon orb with about 2 gallons of water. Started them on rotifers and added a small amount of RG complete and live Iso.
