Onyx percs

4 years ago I bought a captive bred pair of onyx clowns. I haven't been too serious about them breeding, even though that is why I got them. They are now sick of waiting on me and are regularly producing clutches. The first one I missed, but this one I know when they were laid down to the hour. Wish I could just remove the tile, but so far they wont lay on it, preferring to lay close their nem. I am committed at the moment to just trying to get what larva I can out of the brood tank, on hatch night. I think they should hatch to night, so any tips on getting them out of the main tank would be awesome, as I am all set and ready to raise babies.

other than that... turn your pumps off, and wait for about an hour to 2 hours after lights out on the tank and take a flash light to the top corner of the tank (somewhere easily accessible), wait till you see 'em, then scoop them up. (a cup works better than a net imo, unless you have a brine net).

Unfortunately nothing yet But I only kind of though they might last night. Today they are silver, and I am prepared mostly. Still working on the fry catcher, but I figure if nothing else I'll scoop. Hopefully we will have babies in the morning

So I had a thought the other day, but thought it a bad one. Any way, the rock the eggs are on is completely moveable. The only reason I haven't moved it to a hatch tank, is because of the sizable BTA that lives on it. I don't want to shock the parents mostly. I am sure for a while w/ proper attention the nem would be fine in the other tank for the duration of the hatch. I know every clown is it's own, but is this something that would likely shock them into not laying?

I am happy to say the eggs finally hatched, though I only collected about 20 as my methods are still being figured out. The fry though seem very strong right out of the gate, and I think w/ some refining of my skills, I'll have happy healthy onyx clowns real soon

I am just happy to know how many days after their laid I can expect them to hatch. Now I can start getting serious about this. Expect to see a build thread real soon!

I don't have any pictures but take a 3 liter soda bottle & cut a large window in the side & put a stocking over it & stand it up in your sump. Now get a small plastic funnel & attach flex tubing over the funnel & create a syphon & put the tube in the top of the bottle. Put the funnel over the egg clutch. The trick is not to have to much water pressure & it will catch them.

That is almost too simple, I'm going to try it w/ this next clutch. Any luck and I should get a new one by the 15th.
