A. clarkii or A. chrysopterus.

POSTING THIS, ITS ACTUALLY A BUDDIES FISH... BUT I WAS CURIOUS MYSELF... "Under better lighting her lines are blue. I had her floating under halides and she was glowing. It's the tail that was confusing me. She has a white tail that has a tiny bit of a yellow hue but its shorter than a clarkii's." WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK... or is there a good guide you can link me too!

Sure! As you see more examples you will being to basically train yourself to pick up on subtle differences. To me the body shape has slight differences, but those are very slight, or maybe I just see them in my head. Some more clear differences are that most of the time adult chrys do not have the tail stripe. They usually only have the head and middle strips. That can be a little confusion on white tailed variants though. Also, most of the time adult chrys their "top" fin is going to be colored. Usually it will be orange or yellow. In clarks the "top" fin is usually brown or black. Also in chrys, the middle bar is usually much thinner. Clarks will usually have both bar's being wide. Then the last thing is that the stripes on the chrys are usually have a very cool blue sheen to them. Hence the common name Blue striped clownfish. I am not an expert, so maybe others will chime in. Just some things that stand out to me. I hope that makes sense and helps!

Clarkii was my first 'gut' instinct on it... but when he said it wasn't (after close inspection)... I thought maybe I was missing something. Just thought I would ask! I am not sure now, after looking it over.... I'll go find a picture of mine and compare.

I am the owner of this fish. I bought her from someone on Craig'slist as a clarkii.. But when I got her home and put her under halides, her stripes were glowing blue. My Darwin's glow also. But with this fish, her tail doesn't look like a clarkii's to me. Clarkii's have long sharp tails as they are the fastest clownfish species. And one of the only clowns to migrate from anemone to anemone. I just need to help getting a 100% ID as I am looking for a male for her

Yeah, I personally am still confident it is A. Clarkii. Looks like a nice sized female (or future female)! A lot of times you cant go by any one trait as there can be many variants.

She looks like a Solomon Islands A. chrysopterus to me. I've asked multiple breeders and one will say clarkii then the next will say chrysopterus. Ugh. Haha
