Clownfish larvae over feeding?
-
Saturday, July 27, 2013 10:38 PM
Is this possible? I had a good hatch and they were all eating rotifers up until day 4, when suddenly most of them died. I took the dead ones out and each ones belly has exploded. Now, the last clowns that are alive are at the top of the water gasping. Any ideas? Thanks

I have been told this is a problem with clarkii and some tomato complex larvae. I don't know if its true, but for what its worth, this is not the first time I have heard of it. Hopefully some others will chime in.

I can't speak with any great amount of certainty... but I have lost several babies (clarkii's) to this exact description. I switched up the rotifer feed and cut the rotifer stocking densities in the larvae tank down by half. Seems to do much better ... don't know if this is just forcing them to feed less, or if it's the nutritional change up in rotifer diet... can't say for certain.
