No mas, no mas!

Would never thought I'd be asking this, but I am too tired to continue the breeding hobby, so have to ask how to stop the eggs. Couldn't bare to see my fry get eaten, so I just want to simply stop the spawning. I have two pair that lay a batch like clockwork every 11 to 15 days. I have too many small fish and too many tanks to take care of right now, so I want to stop the eggs from getting laid. Suggestions please. Thanks, r/ mike

Hey! You can help test a theory. Anecdotes indicate that vodka dosing a tank may interfere with breeding. Start vodka dosing your tank, and see if the fish stop laying! (Yes, I am serious)

Drop the temp down to below 80*. That stops mine.

Or just rearrange everything. Separate them. Sell them or give them to a breeder.

Wow, I wish I had your problem lol! I wish I had too many baby fish. My longest record was 10 days and then the last clown fry died. And that was only once. I've been trying since they started laying in March. The usually die the same day that they hatch lol.

What are these fish? and where you located? I would seriously consider purchasing them from you. I am needing more broodstock to fill the new system.

Ocellaris Clowns. I'm in Okinawa, Japan. A large batch will hatch tonight, but it looks like the mother is already carrying another load of eggs. The pair downstairs ate the last batch, so that was some relief. Purchased 2 more aquariums today, just in case though. On an interesting note: Upstairs I placed some tiles in the tank hoping she would spawn on them. She didn't. Once I removed them, she spawned that afternoon on the glass. What is interesting was the days were down to 11 for the spawn, but she went 15 days, until I removed those tiles. I might re-arrange the tank tomorrow, but I don't want to cause harm to her if she has eggs inside. This fish eats from my fingers and I'd hate to see anything happen to her. Another interesting thing about this mother, is she doesn't help at all with fanning the eggs. It's only the father. The pair downstairs work as a team fanning the eggs. I'll post an update in the next few days on how things went. Thanks for your suggestions...although I'm not sure if the vodka one was was for real:-)) r/ mike
