Chris's fish room - Sunday, November 24, 2013 10:25 PM
0
So my wife has graciously given me 750sf of basement for my fish room.  I took a quick video of my broodstock setup.  I am Currently running 8 - 20 gallon tanks to a central sump.  I really appreciated the information I received  at the breeders workshop as well as the information provided here at MBI.  Thanks to fishtal for being so quick to respond to my questions a few months ago.

looks great, what a nice wife : )  Wish we had basements in Texas, my gracious wife gave up her walk-in closet!

Well my first fish room was in a closet also back when we were first married.  Since then she has let me upgrade.

Finally took some pictures of the larval rearing tubs.  I have not completed the grow out system yet, so I have been growing them out in the tubs.  They seem to be doing well.  Here are a few pictures to show my progress.  I hopefully I will be able to complete the grow out system soon as I just had a new clutch of Darwin x black snowflake.

Thanks.  My wife was kind enough to put a fish room on our house wish list when we were searching for a new place.

Looks great! I too wish I had a basement. It would make things a lot easier.

Yes it makes water spills a lot easier to deal with.  Only problem is no drain so I am having to bucket my water upstairs to dispose of it.  Plan on fixing that issue in the future but one step at a time.

Chris, a couple of random thoughts here.
First, why don't you put a big tub in the corner of your basement and put all your dirty water in that.  Then buy a sump pump, attach a garden hose, and somehow snake the hose up to the main floor and into the tailpiece of your kitchen sink, into your laundry room sink, or some other convenient piece of plumbing.  That way when your tub is full you can flip on the pump, go work in some other part of the basement until the pump makes funny noises, then run back and shut it off.   Better than carrying buckets up the stairs.

Second, 750 square feet and only 10 tanks?  What's wrong with this picture?  You should be able to put at least 100 tanks in that space!  More in the bedroom after your patient wife finds out and leaves you!

I hope you know that I'm joking.  Keep up the good start you've made.

Here are a few pictures of some of my Clarkii and Percula Babies growing out in my larval rearing tubs until I get the grow out system turned on.

That setup is awesome! Just curious if you have had succes with the tailspot blennies? I have been tempted to try to get a pair.

I had one of the tailspots Perish.  On several occasions I noticed one with a rather distended abdomen but I never saw any eggs.  These are beautiful fish and I am also tempted to try again.  For now the remaining one is loving my father-in-laws reef tank.  Interesting note is that when I put them in their tank there was a bunch of algae growing.  Within three days it was gone.  They had eaten it all.  I was actually growing algae on tiles in other tanks so that they had some to feed on.  Maybe this is useful information and maybe not.

Good luck!
