Tips for top dressing larval foods? - Sunday, January 26, 2014 2:50 PM

I've never tried top dressing any food.  I have some Paracoccus powder from Brine Shrimp Direct and want to top dress some larval food.  How do I do this?

Weigh the food you want to top dress. Weigh out 5% of food weight in Paracoccus. Add.  Mix well. Add 1 % salmon oil, fish oil, or "any" oil. mix well. Done.

That's it?    I was thinking I would have to buy some sort of sprayer for the oil or something.  Just sprinkle it over?  Thanks!

New Life Spectrum Grow.  Can't get Otohime or TDO in Canada.

Interesting.  I've found its best to add oil, mix, then add powder, and perform the final mix.  Otherwise you can get oil/powder clumping and/or change your pellet/granule size.

New Life Spectrum Growth contains krill, the very reason Otohime and TDO cannot get into Canada (at this time).  We'll have to take this up with CFIA now!

Ingredients: Whole Fish, Whole Antarctic Krill, Chlorella Algae, Whole Wheat Flour, Omega-3, Ulva Seaweed, Spirulina, Kelp, Garlic, Alfalfa, Mollusk, Fruit Extract, Vegetable Extract, Beta Carotene, Vitamin A Acetate, Vitamin D Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Niacin, Folic Acid, Biotin, Thiamine, Riboflavin Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Calcium Pantothenate, L-Ascorby-2-Polyphosphate (Stable C), Choline Chloride, Ethylenediamine Dihydroiodide, Cobalt Sulfate, Ferrous Sulfate and Manganese Sulfate.

Recently I've been reminded that I started out using 1% naturose. At the time 5% was too much.  Then the ability to get fresh naturose went away.  I started using 5 % to get enough color.

Yeah, I don't get it.  We have all sorts of different fish foods in Canada and I think most of them have Krill.

I read somewhere that a guy was using fish oil/cod liver oil and asthaxanthin  powder to top dress his larval feed (which was nothing but pulverized high quality flakes and pellet food).

Exactly what we all used to do, except that Mindy was asking about Paracanthus powder. Same process, different ingredient.
