A. ocellaris question - Monday, January 27, 2014 8:28 PM

I had a pair of Blacker Ice Ocellaris but I lost 1.  I got a juvenile orange ocellaris to pair up with the remaining Blacker Ice.  It was about 1 1/2 years and about 1 1/2"  the juvie was definitely smaller when I put it in.  However, now it appears that the juvie is larger than the Blacker Ice.  My question is what happens now.  Will I have 2 females in there?  Or will the older one remain dominant even though it might not be larger?

Did the Black Ice pair spawn before you lost the one? If not, the survivor may not have become female yet. You'll have to watch them and see how they interact.

They did apparently spawn for the previous owner, but had not spawned for me.
they were both about the same size so I don't know which one died.  Markings were very similar too.
As for behavior, they have been  sharing the 10 gal since some time in Oct. and have not been fighting at all.  And they share the pot at least have of the time.  The one not in the pot is usually hanging out between the pot and the glass.

Another amusing incident happened the other day.  I've hurt my hand so a friend came over to help with some of the tank maintenance. When she put her hand into the tank the older of the pair bit her.  These guys have never been aggressive to me.  In fact a moment or 2 later, I put my hand in to move something and she(?) totally ignored me.  Does this happen often?

But mine attack other people, not me.
