This first post should be updated regularly to include new information as events take place or changes are made to your system General Species: Pseudodiaptomus pelagicus Species description: medium sized calanoid copepod Culture source (link if possible ): Algagen, via Seahorse Source If algae, CCMP # (Optional ): http://ccmp.bigelow.edu/ Culture Establishment Date: 4/17/14 Continuation Date: 8/12/14 Culturing Vessel Details Salinity: 27ppt Temperature: ambient, varies by season, but now about 74F pH: 8
Vessel description: 4x4x4 inch clear plastic square jar, previously contained rice, with a drilled cap , then a plastic ziplock tray with lid, hole drilled in cap (then after the 90 day report, a 3 gallon black trash can from the dollar store). The trash can seemed to work best, but needed a lid Lighting description: ambient Lighting cycle: 14 hours day, 10 hours night Aeration description: exposed to air through hole in cap Methodologies Split methodology: split every month or so. It would have grown better if split weekly, I think. Culture medium description: about 50 ml of weak tea colored live Isochrysis galbana culture 2-3 times a week at recent populations, or whenever clear. Cell count: (if known) not known Reference links: Additional Information (No Pictures or Videos in the Section Please) Notes: By ambient lighting, I mean that no lighting was placed to facilitate copepod growth other than room lighting. Room lighting was a Compact Fluorescent Bulb, 40 watts, in a reflective fixture clamped to an exposed beam in the ceiling. You will be required to provide photographic evidence and as much detail as possible about your project in this thread.
If your thread does not contain detailed enough photos and information the MBI Council will not be able to approve your reports.

When these arrived from Algagen, they were mostly dead. I saw a couple of swimmers in there, so I pretended it was a culture and put it in one of my disposable 13x9 plastic containers with some saltwater and Isochrysis. They did tolerably in there, but did not bloom. I moved the culture to a small plastic jar, holding about a 1 liter so I could keep a better eye on them. Fed as before. They appeared to bloom. Taking pictures, they look very much like Parvocalanus and I thought i just had a contamination, but the size is different. I'll look for attached eggs, as that is a difference.

Have you gotten any pics of them with eggs? I am not good enough at copepod identification to tell from that one pic. They look so similar to parvo...where's Jim? lol
