ClorAm-X for dechlorination of tap water - Wednesday, July 2, 2014 11:31 AM

You know how you can buy Prime, Start Right, AmQuel, etc and they all have guidelines on the label such as use 1 tsp per 10 gallons of tap water?  What is everyone using as dosing guidelines for ClorAm-X?  I'm using this for waterchanges in fish only display aquariums.  I had a giant bottle of Prime I was using, but it's almost gone so I'm going to switch to my tub of ClorAm-X since it is much more cost efficient.  I've seen Tal say he uses 1 tsp per 5 gallons of tap water.  Is that typical?

The tub lists dosing in relation to ammonia.  I don't see a "standard tap water" type of dose.  I will check the website.  Thanks.

The 1 tsp/5 gallons is what I was told by Reed when I started.

I mix up 6 scoops ( the one that came with the cloram x) with 2 L water and use 2 capfuls per 5 gal. Seems to work good for me at that ratio.

Ok thanks Tal.  Good to know where the advice came from.

Thanks Larry, my ClorAm-X didn't come with a scoop though?!  Haha!

That sucks.

I wish they never went away from the square plastic tubs.  I don't like the round ones.

Agreed. The rim of the top on the round one comes apart pretty easily.

We use a ton of it here, so I routinely get containers to repurpose.  I only get a month or two use out of them as opposed to years with the old square bucket.  They are also hard with shipping as now there are corners with no support, so a pallet of it cannot be stacked as tall.
