Clownfish Pair - Will Only Eat Pellets
-
Tuesday, July 22, 2014 12:59 PM
Usually people have this the other way around. Right now my pair of clownfish will only eat New Life Spectrum Thera+ A Sinking Pellets. They won't touch any of the various frozen foods I have. I'm trying to growout some live brine shrimp, but that's another 2 weeks away. These guys have been in my tank over a week. I just thought it was odd that they'd accept pellets, but not the good stuff. I even tried pushing the pellets into the reef recipe to see if they would eat. No Dice. Do I only offer them what I want to feed them, and not give them what I want? I'm trying to get them to spawn. I've tricked them into eating frozen brine shrimp, by thawing it, and putting in live brine shrimp at the same time.

If you want to get them to try new foods a couple days of fasting might help. I wouldn't worry about trying any brine shrimp. Unless you are gut loading them they are basically hollow shells. As far as pellets there are a lot of very good brands that I wouldn't hesitate to feed as a staple diet - the main ones being New Life Spectrum and Otohime.

I wouldn't put it passed a pair of clowns to spawn on a diet of pellets. If its good food and they are fed a lot they'll spawn.

And they just finished eating the eggs. Hopefully they spawn again next week.

Continuing to be fussy. They take that one type of pellet and brine shrimp. Everything else (including frozen) they spit out.

I'm still facing the same thing. They will eat frozen brine and cyclopeeze.
