Spotcinctus babies (A. bicinctus var.) - Sunday, August 3, 2014 12:53 AM

I thought I would share a quick (and not very good) video of my Spotcinctus babies. They are approximately 90 dph in the video. I don't know if I have pics of all the stages from this first successful batch, so I will probably start a breeding journal when the next eggs hatch.
It was definitely a pleasure to have successfully raised these and hopefully I can find a market for these very under-appreciated (IMO) clownfish.

And thanks to hyperboy for answering all my newbie questions!!

So...are both parents Spotcinctus?  If so, how / what's the percentage of Spocinctus vs. normally barred offspring?

Both of the parents are ORA Spotcinctus.
Of the 30 or so fish that made it through meta, all of them are Spotcinctus although to varying degrees. Additionally, probably 50% or slightly more exhibit the pearl eye trait. There are 3 fish with very muted colors that are the closest to normal barring but two of them have small spots and one has a 2nd stripe that runs horizontal rather than vertical.
I have a 2nd group of 30 or so that are just getting their spots now. Over half of them have developed spots in the last 48 hours so I wouldn't be surprised if nearly all of them eventually have spots. The pearl eye trait becomes obvious at about the same time the spots start showing up.
Of course, being completely new to this, I have no idea what impact my less than perfect care had on the striping versus how much genetics play a role. But a close to 100% Spotcinctus result is not what I would have expected.

Here are a couple of pics. Best I could do shooting down into a BRT.

Those are some nice looking babies.. are they really 90 dph? They are really big for that age. What have you been feeding them?

I think the macro lens may make them appear larger than they are. I actually thought they were small for their age. The largest might be 3/4" from tip to tip (with a lot of that being tail). Most of them are in the 1/2" range.
They started on rotifers fed with RGComplete or Rotigreen Omega. They were then transitioned through the TDO line from A to B1 to B2 to C1 at the current time.

As much as I rail about how ugly designer clownfish are, I do find myself attracted to Spotcinctus with their yellow fins , lyre tail, and pearl eye.  I owned a pair for many years that did not spawn for me, so I will be interested in your report!

That is still pretty big for 3months old.  Thanks for the food info.  They are beautiful.
