Since I cannot get the video to work here is a picture where you can tell she has eggs. They are still the orange-ish color at this point. The shrimp are finally starting to come out when I add food so hopefully good pics will now be easier to get.

Thanks Ken. I am working everything out of my nano now.

Here is a pic from last night. She just walks around with her pleopods hanging down like this now. Hopefully they will hatch one night over this weekend.

She looks ready to burst! Hopefully you have nhbbs cultures going (but I know you have lots of pods too!). What kind of larval tank setup are you planning?

Well, they hatched on Friday the 8th.  Yes, I had all the pumps off and ready to collect. Then I gave up at 11:00pm and turned it all back on.  I let my dog out unexpectedly at 12:30am and of course was obligated to check the tank since I was now on the same floor.  Bingo - they had hatched.  I saw one and quickly turned off all the pumps.  I was able to use a flashlight and collect maybe 15 or so.  Attached is the video of the glass I pipetted them into.    There were a few copepods that were sucked up at the same time as the larvae.  I covered with a papertowl and went to bed.  On Saturday I added them to a light tisbe culture that had just had a water change and added some rotifers and Tet and sat next to a window.  Very low tech and low chance but I figured with that few (that had been beat around in a full blown reef tank) no real chance anyways.

Ken  - I do have some bbs eggs ready to decap.  I plan to build a kreisel, one that I can hopefully use for others specices as well.  I need to get one drawn up and built.

Bad news - I lost the "female" during a molt while I was traveling for work.

Better news - As of day 5 there are still many left in the vessel.  I have to sacrifice any for pics being I have so few but being as they are likely to parish under this rearing method anyways, I may take one on Day 10 if there are still any left in order to judge development.  If I notice a severe drop in numbers but can still find one I will also sample at that point for documentation of development as well.

It is tough to get a good focused pic but it appears I have been able to get a few decent ones of them in the vessel. In my judgement they are at Z5 11 days post hatch. I counted at least 9.

Well I still had the same ~8 at day 19 and day 20. A video from 19 is below.

http://youtu.be/77XvuK_mDxk

Bad news is that late 20 to mid 21 all died except 2. I see no signs at all of the others. I am traveling for 8 days and was hoping I would get lucky and have a settled one at least when I got home. While it's still possible I think its very slim odds. I did notice on day 20 that the water had cleared and really didn't have an algae in it and the rotifer population had bloomed. Might be a coincidence might not. Today I dumped half the water (rots were concentrated near top with no circulation), added ~500ml of Tet and toped back off with sterilized ASW. A short clip of day 22 is below. I have a hard time judging the stages at this point. They are extremely difficult to get images of at this stage and there is no way that I can see if the pleopods are developing.

Forgot the video. Not a great one but clearly shows the length of one pair of legs that are longer than the entire body.

Hope those 2 make it another 7-10 days, then they should be ready to settle.  Nice shot showing those spear legs.  Are you feeding any crumbled flake foods? Mine would latch on to a flake & drift around chomping on it.

I hadn't fed anything besides the Tisbe and rotifers. In the small vessel I figure any dry food would foul the water right away. I would occasionally see one drifting around clutching onto a clump of the settled Phyto.

If you have any larger juvenile or adult brine shrimp, the later stage larvae will go after those too. And they shouldn't foul the water.

Well, upon return I found no larvae or settled shrimp. At the start I never expected to get any to settlement but once I had several at almost 3 weeks I got my hopes up.

I think I have a killer crab (actually I know I do. A scarlet kills nearly every snail I put in the tank) that gets the shrimp when they molt. So I am at ground zero. Must get new broodstock and must build a kriesel.
