Culturing Journal DataSheet This first post should be updated regularly to include new information as events take place or changes are made to your system General Species: Rotifers L Type - Brachionus plicatilis Species description: 160-360 micrometers Culture source (link if possible ): http://reedmariculture.com/support_rotifers_feeding.php If algae, CCMP # (Optional ): http://ccmp.bigelow.edu/ Culture Establishment Date: Over 10 years ago Continuation Date: still going 06/13/2015 Culturing Vessel Details Salinity: varies Temperature: varies 70-84 pH: 8-8.2 picture of our 2 rotifer culture tanks: http://i893.photobucket.com/albums/ac132/aquatictec_photos/rot1.jpg Vessel description: 10 gallon tanks Lighting description: varies - fluorescent tubes overhead Lighting cycle: 24/7 Aeration description: rigid airline 2 tubes per tank Methodologies Split methodology: weekly on Monday harvest 8 gallons take 10 gallon tank down to 2 gallons set up clean tank on Monday, Wednesday and Friday we add 2.5 gallons of saltwater per culture Culture medium description: fresh saltwater not sterilized made from Red Sea salt We feed daily with cultured phytoplankton nano or iso Cell count: varies - as low as 40 and up to 1000 or more /ml Reference links: Additional Information (No Pictures or Videos in the Section Please) Notes: You will be required to provide photographic evidence and as much detail as possible about your project in this thread. Congratulations for the age of the culture ! Are there ciliates and others in it yet? I have been thinking of the same with two five gallon tanks, or 3 gallon Walmart water jugs with spigots and large side lid.

we use a cleaned tank each week and take the cultures down to just a few gallons sometimes brine shrimp get in we just strain them out
