Arc's Fishroom v.5 - Tuesday, July 21, 2015 8:46 PM
0
So I'll be moving in officially on the 27th of July, but I got to start moving things in today, so I dropped off a couple of tanks and the metal frame I picked up last winter (Which for some reason is slightly warped... no idea).  I'm lucky enough to have two rooms devoted to the fishies: The broodstock room (and display) and the live feeds / QT room.

Still working on system builds, as I change my mind nearly every day.   I'll get pics/drawings up as I get closer.

First things first, gotta clean and paint the rooms.   Broodstock is 14x11, the QT/Feed room is 11x10.  Both have closets and single window.  I've got a fun idea for lighting in the Broodstock room, so I'll be slowly getting stuff for that once I get the layout down.

Pics once I start the process!

Two livable rooms on the main floor of the house!  You have a very tolerant spouse.

Got quite a bit of work done today:

Drove 45 minutes to Menards for wood, screws, saw.
Drive back 45 minutes.
A little after 9am this morning:

Getting some work done:

Top of the stand done:

Did pretty well with the cut offs (not a whole lot of waste):

Decided I didn't want white walls, so hello Bermuda Bay (Glidden pre-mixed color):

And drove back to Menards because I decided to make a change in the base and needed one more 2x6.  Finished for the day:

Stand built, top painted.  Letting the room dry (and stand) for another coat tomorrow.  Not sure on sump yet, but I think the top will be a 75 and a 40Breeder, although that may change if I think about it tonight.

Mixing up some salt and trying out the stand.  Moving the bulk of my stuff today, so no real fishroom time.

Added first pelagic system.  Plumbing next week when I have more time.  Cleaning out 30 Rimless and moving it to new place Sunday.

Still waiting for some parts for the pelagic system, amazon says they come in this Friday.   Moved some stuff around and waiting to hear back on a 140G 3' tube tank for bigger pelagics.

Almost forgot, I need to run to Depot next week for acrylic screen (and order an acrylic drill bit and nylon screws) for the viewing area.

Couple of updates:
Still haven't set the 75 or 40B up yet, but have some pairs in QT:

Cardinals and Purples (New pair, looks like old male is on his way out, so three in there now)

And found these guys yesterday for 9 each, so they are QT'ing in a spare 15 I had set up.

Got a little work done this morning.  Need to add some more screws, then paint this afternoon.  Doubled 2x4's, it should be able to hold two 75's.  More than likely going to be a couple 20's up top, and a 75 on the bottom.  A 20L fits underneath for the sump.

Got some paint on it.  Playing with tank layouts, then ordering plumbing stuff.

Looking good! Considering your height I'm surprised you're building so short.

Your stands are beautiful, but if you have more height, may I suggest that you may wish to build so there is more space above the tanks on the middle shelves. I've recently built tank systems where I thought I had enough, and it was not.  I need enough to get my head above the tank without my nose getting wet!

It makes moving tanks on top of them easier

I'm pretty lucky in that I've got more room than I'll use.  I've got a standard height basement room, but I've still got two walls (one 11' one 10') that there is nothing on yet.  I devote one wall to growout.  Larva are going into the live feeds room to make feeding easier.
