Broodstock tank question

I will be putting a dividing glass in a tank so I can have two pairs of broodstock. Is there a need to paint the glass so the two pairs don't see each other? Or is there no issues of seeing another pair of clowns that close?

You'll want to do something so the pairs can't see each other. If they can see one another they will likely be too stressed out to spawn.

Any suggestions on the best way to paint or otherwise obscure the divider?

You might try covering the divider with black plastic/vinyl that you would use on the back of an aquarium, black glass would be even better. I've used Krylon Fusion paint on pvc inside tanks before and haven't seen any ill effects although it will peel over time... use at your own risk.

i agree with the plastic.
just buy the thin 1/8" black acrylic sheet from ebay, then cut yourself.
you will also need to sand the surface before you silicone it in. otherwise, it will be like a mirror. thats why i wouldnt suggest using black glass.
