Spawn Details
Pre-Spawn Behavior: |
The male seeks out a spawning area and gaurds it from all intruders (including the female).
Spawning Behavior:
The male adorns himself with a dark patern speckled with light splotches. Difficult to describe but it is really neat looking. He darts in and out of his selected spawning site approaching the female each time. This is not an aggressive movement just flashy and deliberate. The female will follow him if she is ready to spawn.
They spawn almost daily and the mass of eggs gets very large before they begin hatching 3-5 days later. I'm not sure of the hatch date since they have so many different spawns. I know why the oceans are full of damsels now =)
Post Spawn Behavior:
The male protects the eggs and continues to court the female.
